Protection consortium: " The collaboration of the two bodies has made possible the launch of the project relating to the Digital Passport of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena "
After the record of 100 million liters certified PGI comes the confirmation of CSQA as control body
The Central Inspectorate for the Protection of Quality and Fraud Repression (ICQRF) of agri-food products of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies has renewed, with Ministerial Decree 322481 of 20 July 2022, the authorization for CSQA to carry out controls for the Protected Geographical Indication Balsamic Vinegar of Modena.
One of the great products of international prestige of the Emilia-Romagna food valley, a region that boasts 44 PDO PGI agri-food products and generates an economic value of 2,779 million euros, placing itself in first place among the Italian regions for the economic impact of food with Geographical Indication (Ismea-Qualivita 2021 Report Data).
Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI - fifth Italian PDO PGI agri-food product by production value (Source: Consorzio Tutela Aceto Balsamico di Modena, 2021 data) - contributes to the made in Italy basket with 100 million liters of certified production capable of generating 400 million € of production value , translated into 1 billion € of consumption value , thanks also to the value generated by the product intended for export , which reaches 92% of the total. In terms of production, an interesting fact to report is the growing appreciation of aged products which have grown exponentially since 2014, reaching a production of over 5.2 million liters in 2021, with a growth of 33% compared to 2020.
Despite the necessary and evident autonomy and independence between the Control Body and the Protection Consortium which has always characterized the relationship of the two bodies and the respect for the various institutional activities carried out by them, the need to enhance and implement more and more product protection strategies has prompted CSQA and the Consortium for the Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena to also develop innovative projects aimed at improving institutional activities and greater consumer involvement. "The collaboration of the two entities has made it possible to launch the project relating to the Digital Passport of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena - says the Director Federico Desimoni - an innovative and pioneering program in the field of traceability, food safety, legality and transparency which will arrive on the market in the coming months and which anticipates the EU policies on the digital passport of products recently announced by the European Commission."
“ We are proud that an excellence of Made in Italy such as Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP confirms CSQA in the controls - underlined Pietro Bonato, General Manager and CEO of CSQA . This demonstrates an important work on the front of controls, aimed at guaranteeing and protecting a historical product and symbol of Italy. The export share reached of 92% demonstrates the extraordinary value and recognition achieved on international markets and the appreciation by consumers. Balsamic Vinegar of Modena PGI was the first of the great Italian Geographical Indications to start experimenting with the Digital Passport, the agri-food traceability system created in collaboration with the State Poligrafico, CSQA and the Qualivita Foundation, the implementation of which is the confirmation of the commitment to innovation for products with designation of origin".
The Balsamic Vinegar of Modena IGP confirms the value of the DOP IGP product portfolio certified by CSQA, which currently includes 71 Geographical Indications: a figure that underlines the desire to increasingly accompany the sustainable development of quality agri-food chains, a symbol of Made in Italy and the vocation of the territories .
