The Ministry of Health , with the support and collaboration of the national reference laboratories for mycotoxins, plant toxins and nitrogenous compounds in foods at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità , of the national reference laboratory for plant toxins at the IZS LER has developed the National Monitoring Plan for agricultural contaminants and natural plant toxins in unregulated foods.
The document provides guidance to the authorities of the regions and autonomous provinces relating to the control of agricultural contaminants and natural plant toxins and/or foods not included in the EC regulation 1881/2006 and in the related repeal regulation in force in the first months of 2023.
These are contaminants and toxins for which EFSA has drawn up opinions on the risks for consumers and which are under discussion at European Commission level.
Specifically, the plan provides indications for the search for chemical substances in foods for which, in recent years, concentration levels have been found to highlight potential risks.
The data collected will be processed by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità for the assessment of exposure risks and the results disseminated at a territorial level.
The plan will be subject to an annual re-evaluation which will take into account legislative changes, emerging risks, the results of annual monitoring, the availability of analysis methods, EU alert notifications, any other data provided by the authorities of the regions and autonomous provinces.
Likewise, the plan will allow the collection (in the Radisan system, MON) and transmission of validated data to EFSA. (Source: https://www.sivempveneto.it/ )
