The Central Inspectorate for the Protection of Quality and Repression of Fraud of agri-food products of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (Masaf) has renewed the authorisation, by Ministerial Decree, for CSQA to carry out checks for the Coppa Piacentina PDO, the Pancetta Piacentina PDO and Salame Piacentino PDO for the next three years.
The three PDO Piacentini cured meats are a high quality product representative of the rich basket of protected products of Emilia-Romagna which - in the food sector - is the national leading region in terms of economic value generated by PDO PGI products thanks to a production value of 3,514 million euros generated by 44 PDO PGI supply chains and the work of 5,952 operators ( Ismea-Qualivita Report Data 2023).
The three PDO Piacenza cured meats - for centuries the result of a domestic practice used to satisfy the needs of the family - generate a consumer value of 50 million euros , thanks to the work of over 77 operators in the area.
The driving force in particular is the Coppa Piacentina DOP supply chain which reaches an annual consumption value of €20 million resulting from 781 tonnes of product.
This is followed by the Pancetta Piacentina DOP supply chain with €11.5 million in consumer value for 589 tonnes of product and that of Salame Piacentino DOP which is worth €18.5 million in consumer value thanks to 809 tonnes produced (Data from the Consorzio Salumi DOP Piacentini ).
Since 2007, the Consorzio Salumi DOP Piacentini has safeguarded and valorised this excellence with projects in numerous areas: First of all in terms of product protection, at a national and European level , through a study specialized in consultancy on intellectual property with specialization in protected names worldwide .
The second area involved is that of the valorisation of the three PDOs in the various distribution channels , in the Horeca sector and towards the final consumer, through promotional activities at the main sector fairs, national media campaigns, cultural events and training courses for professionals.
As a third area, the Consortium's commitment is aimed at supporting the development of associated companies with an ad hoc structure, the "Food District of PDO Piacentini Salumi" brings together pig farmers from the Piacenza area and some companies associated with the Consortium in importing projects municipalities capable of strengthening the economic and social development of the territory.
“The choice to reconfirm CSQA – declared Roberto Belli, Director of the Piacentini DOP Salumi Consortium – is dictated by the desire to continue a valuable collaboration which sees our Consortium and its Associates increasingly committed to guaranteeing three DOP productions in compliance with their strict production regulations".
“Our confirmation – underlines Pietro Bonato, General Director and CEO of CSQA – is the result of the work carried out on the guarantee of these excellent products. Coppa Piacentina PDO, Pancetta Piacentina PDO and Salame Piacentino PDO are cured meats that boast a long and rich history, deeply rooted in Italian culinary traditions and whose production follows ancient and meticulous methods handed down from generation to generation, preserving the quality and authenticity of the product. We are proud to continue on the path undertaken and the renewed trust in CSQA in terms of valorising products with a designation of origin".
The three PDO Piacentini cured meats confirm the value of the portfolio of PDO PGI products certified by CSQA, which currently has 80 Geographical Indications : a fact that underlines the desire to increasingly accompany the development of quality agri-food supply chains, a symbol of Made in Italy and the vocation of the territories.
