BRCGS has published version 7 of the Global Standard Packaging Materials, the standard - originally developed and published in 2001 - designed to protect the consumer by providing a common basis for the certification of companies supplying packaging to food manufacturers.
Since then, the standard has been updated at regular intervals to reflect the latest thinking in product safety and to encourage global adoption of the standard.
It has achieved worldwide use not only by food packaging manufacturers , but also by packaging manufacturers for all applications at all levels of the supply chain.
This includes in version 7 manufacturers of packaging for hygiene-sensitive consumer products, such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and single-use products such as paper napkins.
The standard provides all types of packaging manufacturers with a solid framework to assist them:
- in the operational production of safe packaging materials and related products
- manage product quality to meet customer needs
- to comply with legal compliance and consumer or user protection obligations .
