Encouraging signs of recovery and stabilization: this is the summary of the state of health of the Bresaola della Valtellina PGI sector which, after a still complicated year, opens a positive change of direction. In 2024 , positive numbers will be recorded. In fact, the first two months of this year marked a +9.44% production of certified Bresaola della Valtellina compared to the same interval in 2023.
In 2023, the overall production of Bresaola della Valtellina PGI referring to the 15 certified companies stood at just under 11,900 tonnes (-3.45% on 2022), corresponding to the entire production of Bresaola della Valtellina PGI certified by the CSQA control body . In total, just over 33,256 tonnes of raw material (-4.34%) were started for production , of selected European and global origin.
On the consumer value front, the sector recorded approximately 451 million euros (-8.28% on 2022) with an impact on the province of Sondrio of over 225 million euros. The sector ensures around 1400 jobs and is part of an important district for the local economy, the Valtellina Quality Agri-food District (of whose total production value corresponding to 300 million euros, Bresaola della Valtellina accounts for approximately 83%). On the distribution side, large-scale retail trade confirms itself as the main sales channel for Bresaola della Valtellina PGI (83% of total production).
