Dr. Luigi Bartoli left us on April 16th.
He was founder of CSQA with dr. Luigino Draws and dr. Peter Bonato.
Dr. Luigi Bartoli, originally from Imola, was a prominent figure for agriculture and the agri-food sector first in the Vicenza area and then in the Veneto region.
Graduated in agriculture, he began his career in the offices of the Ministry of Agriculture. sent to the agricultural inspectorates first in Arezzo and then in Potenza. At the end of the 1960s he was transferred to Vicenza where he first became a zootechnical inspector and then, with the transfer of powers to the regions, head of the agricultural inspectorate of Vicenza.
In the 70s he was called to direct the agriculture department of the Veneto Region and then from 76 he was appointed regional secretary for the primary sector.
In 1982 he was appointed director of the then Dairy Institute of Thiene,
In the period 82 - 94, the years in which he remained at the helm, before his retirement, the Institute was entrusted with competences over the entire agri-food sector and it experienced intense development, both structural, in the provision of analysis and experimentation laboratories, for the agricultural and agri-food sector, and management, until it became a national and European point of reference.
In 1989 he started the creation of the Pilot Center for agri-food biotechnology, for the study and production of microorganisms useful for fermentation in food processes (wine making, dairy products, sausages, bakery products, etc.) which was then activated in 1994 by his successor as director.
In 1990, in collaboration with the current president and director Luigino Draws and Pietro Bonato, he was the founder of CSQA, the first certification body for the agricultural and agri-food sector accredited in Italy and destined to assume a role of international importance over the years.
He was director of CSQA until 1994, then president from 1999 to 2009 when he resigned for health reasons, not without having contributed during the presidency to consolidate the activity and prestige of the certification body, which in the meantime had become the main control body for agri-food products and a reference for the made in Italy agri-food sector in the world.
Finally, it should be remembered that in 2008 as president of CSQA he participated together with Federdoc in the activation of Valoritalia, currently the leading national body for the control and certification of the wine sector, and of which CSQA is a reference body for the voluntary certification of wineries.
The career of Dr. Bartoli was distinguished by the ability to be ahead of the times and to anticipate what would later be the need for research, innovation and promotion for the affirmation of the Veneto and national agri-food sector and products on domestic and international markets.
