Sustainability in the wine sector

EQUALITAS Recognizes Diversity Ark as a Biodiversity Standard
EQUALITAS Recognizes Diversity Ark as a Biodiversity Standard EQUALITAS is the reference standard for sustainability in the wine sector .

Its protocol is based on three fundamental pillars: environmental, economic and social.
For each pillar, verifiable and measurable requirements and indicators have been defined.

Among the measurable indicators provided by the standard is soil biodiversity:
  • Soil biodiversity index (SBI-bf) on the vineyard surface;
  • Aquatic biodiversity index (IBA-bf) across the entire company surface;
  • Lichen biodiversity index air (IBL-bf) on the whole
  • the company surface area.
EQUALITAS has now also recognized Diversity Ark as a valid certification for the soil biodiversity requirement.

After having obtained the brand recognition at European level and deposited the specification with CSQA, Diversity Ark now reaches this further milestone.

Following this recognition , companies that obtain the Diversity Ark certification will automatically see EQUALITAS recognize the achievement of the requirement relating to soil biodiversity.

Similarly, the companies that, after having certified the environmental part with Diversity Ark, wish to approach the EQUALITAS path, will be able to integrate the certification of economic and social sustainability.

The Diversity Ark Certification Mark was born from the initiative of a team of agronomists and naturalists who understood the need of farmers and agricultural companies to scientifically monitor the biodiversity of their cultivated areas , adopting a holistic approach to the protection of biodiversity , guaranteeing a reliable and recognized method.

The Diversity Ark Certification provides agricultural companies with the necessary analytical knowledge of the characteristics of their agro-ecosystem in order to identify the correct management of their land .

It is a virtuous path of study and monitoring of the cultivated area with the aim of preserving and improving agro-ecological balances.

This is useful knowledge about soil, insects, plants and biodiversity to conserve and improve the presence of nature, a presence that helps us to intervene less where balances are present.

The results allow an in-depth evaluation of the vitality and potential of the agro-ecosystem to improve agronomic management aimed at naturalness and excellence of production.
