The European Commission offers free access to the Food Labeling Information System (FLIS - Food Labeling Information System).
The FLIS was designed to support Food Sector Operators (FBOs) in identifying the mandatory indications that must be present on product labels.
The objective is to guarantee correct application of the legislation by the FBOs and facilitate the task of the competent authorities in applying the regulations.
The system provides an easy-to-use IT solution that allows users to select the food and automatically retrieve the mandatory EU particulars in 23 EU languages.
It also provides links to relevant legal provisions and existing guidance documents.
For indications coming from Community Directives, please also refer to the national transposition provisions .
National legislation may have imposed additional labeling requirements for some foods.
The food labeling information system serves only as a documentation tool and has no legal effect .
The authentic versions of the relevant acts, including the preambles, are those published in the Official Journal of the European Union and available in EUR-Lex.
