There is a common thread that links the most beautiful Relais & Chateaux residences and their commitment to respecting sustainability, biodiversity and social practices . In 2014, Relais & Châteaux drafted a Manifesto declaring its will to build “a better world through cuisine and hospitality” .

From that, we have now moved on to a truly proactive commitment, aware that the objectives must be transformed into concrete, visible and measurable actions. This is how the partnership with Unesco was born and the 12 commitments have materialized in three primary missions: preserving the culinary and hospitality traditions of the world, contributing to the protection and development of biodiversity and adopting daily actions for a more humane world. Here are some of the many examples in which these commitments are materialized in Italian structures.

Also in Tuscany at the Relais & Châteaux Castello Banfi Wine Relais in Montalcino , in the province of Siena, the focus on sustainability is reflected in the irrigation of the parks and gardens with water from artificial rainwater basins and the creation of a small vegetable garden for internal catering. The property also uses its own agricultural products, including olive oil, plums, wine, pasta, honey and Etruscan Balsamic Condiment. The residence has also obtained the prestigious Equalitas Certification , recognition of the Sustainability Management System for the Wine Sector, following a rigorous audit by CSQA , started in 2016, the year in which the first Sustainability Report was drawn up.
