Antonio Giuliano, food technologist in Food&Wine companies, was born in Palermo where he obtained a three-year degree from the University of Palermo in Agri-food Sciences and Technologies; he completed his studies with a master's degree in Parma in Food Safety and Food Risk Management. He has several master's degrees to his credit: Food Industry Management in Baveno, Food Safety Management at CSQA , Dealcoholized Wine.

Why produce alcohol-free wine?
The production of alcohol-free or dealcohol-free wine represents a promising market opportunity in the food and wine sector, especially in countries with a strong winemaking tradition such as Italy. This trend responds to a growing market, which includes consumers looking for healthier options and alternatives to traditional wine for various reasons, including: healthy lifestyle choices, religious needs, personal preferences or medical restrictions. Growing interest in health and wellness is driving more and more consumers to reduce or eliminate alcohol intake. Alcohol-free wine, in this sense, offers an option that allows you to maintain the pleasure of wine, a mark of excellence of our tradition, without the adverse effects of alcohol.

What advantages can it bring to the wine market?
This market segment is rapidly expanding globally, with growing demand especially in Western markets. Italy, renowned for its winemaking tradition, can exploit this trend for both domestic consumption and export, expanding its audience and consumption opportunities. Regarding the target consumers in the wine market, we can easily indicate various categories: health-conscious consumers; people who follow an active and healthy lifestyle, and who prefer to avoid the extra calories and negative effects of alcohol. More and more wineries, both large and small, are trying their hand at producing alcohol-free wine, expanding the offering on the market. Alongside classic alcohol-free wines, new types of products are emerging, such as sparkling wines, rosé wines and alcohol-free desserts, capable of satisfying the different needs of consumers.

Who is interested in consuming alcohol-free wine?
There can be many interested parties. For example, professionals during work shifts: alcohol-free wine is also an appropriate choice for business lunches or dinners or corporate events, where you prefer to maintain mental clarity; people with medical restrictions, i.e. those who cannot consume alcohol for health reasons or due to medical therapies, pregnant and breastfeeding women, women who avoid alcohol for health reasons but who still wish to enjoy the pleasure of wine. Let's not forget young people or minors: offer alcohol-free wines to young adults and minors as a way to educate them on the taste of wine without exposing them to the negative effects of alcohol. And again, consumers for religious or cultural reasons: some cultures and religions impose restrictions on the consumption of alcohol. Alcohol-free wine allows you to respect these restrictions without giving up the pleasure of wine
