This is the White Garlic Polesano DOP, which together with the Scardovari mussel is the only product entirely made in Polesine to have the recognition of protected designation of origin, to which are also added two IGP products, the Po Delta rice and the Lusia salad , as well as a share in the recognized production area of a third IGP, the Chioggia radicchio . The combination of garlic and Polesine has a history that dates back to ancient Rome, also mentioned by Virgil in his Georgics. But it was only in 2010 that Aglio Bianco Polesano DOP obtained the DOP mark from the European Union.
And on December 21, 2010 the protection consortium was born, with the collaboration of the special company for the fruit and vegetable markets of Lusia and Rosolina of the Rovigo Chamber of Commerce and the Il Polesine cooperative , which was the promoting committee of the PDO brand. An indispensable condition for using the brand is that the producer is duly certified by the CSQA of Thiene, the appointed certifying body, a necessary condition also for the packer.
