
The event that took place yesterday at the Grimaldi Foundation in Modica saw the presence of the Consortia for the Protection of the Ibleo territory: Giuseppe Arezzo for the Monti Iblei Oil, Enzo Cavallo for the Ragusano Dop, Massimo Pavan for the New Carrot of Ispica; guests included the president and director of the Consortium for the Protection of the Pistachio of Raffadali, Rino Frenda and Salvatore Gazziano respectively. Among the institutions responsible for the matter, the presence of Salvatore Vaccaro, head of the Catania office of the ICQRF (Central Inspectorate for Quality and Fraud Repression), of the Captain of the Guardia di Finanza Camilla Massarini and of the Lieutenant of the Carabinieri Giuseppe D'Orsi was significant. All participants were offered a bar of Modica IGP Chocolate with the new state mark, so they could experience first-hand how the Qrcode works.
The presentation of the Digital Passport and the new related symbol was curated by the officials of the State Printing Office Annalisa Griffo – Head of the Agrifood Market Unit of the IPZS and by Greta Ferro – Account Manager of the IPZS . An in-depth analysis of the technical and IT security features that support the new state symbol, based on Qrcode technology; A personalized and unique secure symbol and a digital system of specific information, which will allow the consumer to recognize the authenticity and safety of the product, its traceability and its history.
The secure mark, Griffo and Ferro demonstrate by alternating and showing interesting slides, which enhances each bar of Cioccolato Di Modica PGI and guarantees its authenticity and identity, being in fact a small banknote made by Poligrafico with advanced design and security printing technologies, including the use of watermarked paper, security graphics, guilloche, fibrils and special inks. The mark is equipped with a unique coding system to allow the tracking and tracing of the individual product specimen along the entire supply chain, supporting at the same time the verification and control activities. With the new version of the digital passport, based on the use of a unique QR Code within the mark, the consumer experience will be significantly improved. Information, data and characteristics that guarantee the uniqueness of a certified product will in fact be accessible by directly framing the mark with the smartphone. The recorded intervention of the CEO of Poligrafico Francesco Soro on the value of the Digital Passport of Modica Chocolate was significant.

CSQA was presented as a publicly controlled certification body , active in the sectors of Agri-food and Packaging, Sustainability, Life Sciences-Health and Health, IT Security, Services, Forests and Ecosystem Services. Csqa is the control body chosen by the Consortium at the time of submitting the request for recognition, then appointed by decree of the Ministry of Agriculture ICQRF department with Ministerial Decree no. 15861 of 31/10/2018.
