The Veneto Agricoltura seminar entitled “ The sustainability of Geographical Indications ” will be held in Legnaro (PD) on 12 December 2024. The seminar will be attended by Renzo Rossetto (Veneto Agricoltura), Valentina Pizzamiglio (Head of Research Innovation Skills Sustainability, ORIGIN), Marco Omodei Salè (Head of Innovation and Development of CSQA) and Mauro Rosati (Director of the QUALIVITA Foundation) who will illustrate the recent study “ DOP Sustainability Report ” published by the Qualivita Foundation, in collaboration with Origin Italia, on the sustainability of Italian GIs, based on the FAO-oriGIn study “Developing a roadmap towards increased sustainability in geographical indication systems”.

The evolution of “social” values, consumer perception and commercial regulations are pushing all economic sectors to rethink their value creation model while taking into account social and environmental objectives. In this context, sustainability is certainly one of the crucial issues and Geographical Indications , as products linked to the territory and based on the reputation built, over the years, on the relationship of trust with the consumer, spontaneously catalyze consumers' expectations not only on the organoleptic quality but also on the sustainable vision of their models. Therefore, “ sustainability ”, understood in the economic/social/environmental concept, is an aspect that will increasingly have to be considered, appropriately evaluating the type of voluntary certification to be adopted by the GIs.

Starting from the Sustainability Strategy for Geographical Indications , the seminar intends to deepen and share the methodological approach and the results of a research and development project of practical tools addressed to the groups of producers of Geographical Indications aimed at defining and implementing a roadmap for local sustainability. The event will also be an opportunity to present the salient features of the Veneto GI System
