The winners of the sixth edition were awarded at Ecomondo 2024
of the award organized by PEFC Italia and Legambiente to support and relaunch good forest management practices.
Six categories were awarded: best Sustainable Forest Management ; best Forest Supply Chain ; best Forest Product ; best Ecosystem Service ; best Forest Enhancement and the Green Communities award .
From the sustainable forest management of the Umbrian woods that were home to Saint Francis , to the certification of the Ecosystem Service “Protection of biodiversity”, through the creation of a local supply chain of fir wood intended to restore monumental buildings. These are some of the winning projects of the “ Sustainable Forest Communities 2024 ” award, organized by PEFC Italia (Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes), a body promoting the correct and sustainable management of forest heritage, and by Legambiente .

1) San Francesco Woods Win Award for Sustainable Forest Management
The winning project of the Sustainable Forest Management Award concerns obtaining the PEFC Sustainable Forest Management certification from the Umbria Regional Forestry Agency (AFOR) for some forests in the Monte Subasio Regional Park , which extends between the municipalities of Assisi, Spello, Valtopina and Nocera Umbra (PG).
Beech forests, holm oak forests, manna ash forests, cypress forests, mixed oak and broadleaf forests, fir forests, Aleppo pine forests, cedar forests, Douglas fir forests, stone pine and maritime pine forests: a total of 2,313.39 hectares , sustainably managed and certified by CSQA .
