Protection consortium: "priority to economic and environmental sustainability, PDO tourism and promotion"

Puzzone di Moena PDO, 71 producers for a turnover of 4 million euros The Central Inspectorate for the Protection of Quality and Repression of Fraud (ICQRF) of agri-food products of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry (Masaf) has renewed the authorisation, by Ministerial Decree, for CSQA to carry out checks for the Designation of Protected Origin Puzzone di Moena for the next three years.

Puzzone di Moena PDO, also protected by the Ladin name Spretz Tzaorì DOP , is one of the excellences of the rich basket of certified products from Trentino-Alto Adige , a region which - in the Food and Wine sectors - can boast 29 PDO PGI products capable of generating an economic impact of over 1 billion euros thanks to the work of 21,600 operators (Ismea-Qualivita Report Data 2022).

Born in the shift dairies and farms of Val di Fiemme, Val di Fassa and Primiero, Puzzone di Moena PDO can now count on a supply chain of 400 tonnes of certified annual production and 71 operators capable of generating €4 million in consumer value (Ismea-Qualivita 2022 Report Data).

Since 2015, the Consortium for the protection of Puzzone di Moena – Spretz Tzaorì has safeguarded and enhanced this excellence with projects aimed at protecting the quality and environment of the production area. Among the main ongoing projects are "LoST Eu" - the European promotion program that enhances the Trentina PDO and 7 other Italian PDO dairy excellences at a national and international level - and a scientific project in the field of economic sustainability to evaluate greater use in bovine diet of locally produced fodder.

A commitment that the Protection Consortium and the supply chain also direct towards quality gastronomic tourism with the Festival del Puzzone di Moena PDO and environmental sustainability with the producers' commitment to processing production waste to obtain energy through the Predazzo biodigester .

“The choice to reconfirm CSQA, the leading certification body in Italy in the field of Geographical Indications, is dictated by the desire to continue a profitable path that has lasted for many years with mutual satisfaction – underlines Franco Morandini President of the Consortium for the protection of Puzzone di Moena Spretz Tzaori . For years the Consortium has relied on CSQA which has always stood out for its seriousness and reliability".

“Our confirmation as a control body for Puzzone di Moena PDO – states Pietro Bonato, General Director and CEO of CSQAis the result of the work carried out on the guarantee of this semi-cooked and semi-hard cow's milk cheese aged for at least 90 days and from soft and enveloping taste. An alpine product that contains the scent of all the herbs and flowers present in the pastures, an expression of the territory of 26 municipalities in the autonomous province of Trento and the municipalities of Anterivo and Trodena in the autonomous province of Bolzano. We are happy to continue on the path undertaken and the renewed confidence in our company in terms of valorising products with a designation of origin".

The Puzzone di Moena PDO confirms the value of the portfolio of PDO PGI products certified by CSQA , which currently has 79 Geographical Indications : a fact that underlines the desire to increasingly accompany the development of quality agri-food supply chains, a symbol of Made in Italy and the vocation of the territories.
