UNI has published the UNI ISO 45004:2024 standard “Occupational health and safety management system – Guidelines on performance evaluation”.
The standard therefore comes alongside other regulations on workplace health and safety management models.
The document is designed to help organizations monitor, measure, analyse and evaluate occupational health and safety (OHS) performance and select and use performance evaluation indicators to support continual improvement in OHS.
The standard is applicable to all organizations regardless of type, size or location and can be used to support the application of UNI EN ISO 45001:2023 +A1:2024 .
Fundamental to the application of the standard is the development and implementation of a process for evaluating performance in relation to health and safety at work.
Advice is therefore provided on how to design and develop this process , how to make it more effective , the pitfalls to avoid and how to integrate the performance evaluation process into the management of business activities.
This process can operate at many levels, it can concern the organization as a whole, top management, individual functions and processes, risks, hazards or individual tasks.
The characteristics that key performance indicators (KPIs) should have are also identified and examples of both reactive and predictive KPIs are provided.
The first indicators can detect a failure or deficiency in some elements of the management system, the second ones allow preventive actions to be taken to address a failure or deficiency before it turns into an accident.
The standard can be a useful source to help organizations select and use appropriate performance evaluation indicators to support continuous improvement in OSH. (Source: https://www.uni.com/ )
