Already 10 wineries certified by the CSQA-VALORITALIA group
that produce vegan wine
The CSQA-Valoritalia Group, in synergy with the Italian vegetarian association (AVI), certifies the wineries that choose to produce vegan wine. " Qualità Vegetariana® Vegan " is, in fact, the first national certification for vegetarian and vegan products . At the moment there are 10 companies with a vegan label, half of which are present in the Marche Region.
Italian and international consumers are increasingly sensitive to the choice of high quality foods and beverages that favor a sustainable approach. In particular, productions for vegetarians and vegans are becoming increasingly accurate and demanding. Consumer sensitivity is oriented towards the purchase of cruelty-free products, including wine.
In fact, not everyone knows that substances of animal origin can be used in the vinification phase, such as milk proteins (caseinates) and egg proteins (ovalbumin), used in the clarification of wines. Vegans therefore have to move towards wines that contain only substances of mineral origin and with adequate guarantees not only in the vinification phase.
The CSQA-Valoritalia Group controls, through a complex procedural process, that in all stages of production in the cellar up to bottling, the absence of products of animal origin is guaranteed, including bottling materials, such as the glue for the labels up to the adhesive tape with which the cartons are closed.
To drink certified vegan wine, therefore, it is important to read the labels or contact the top 10 Italian wineries that produce this product, marked with the Qualità Vegetariana® Vegan brand.
In the Marche Region they are: the San Giovanni agrobiological company, the Offida winery and the Ciù Ciù agricultural company, all in the Municipality of Offida (Ascoli Piceno), the Pievalta agricultural company in Maiolati Spontini (Ancona) and the Costadoro winery in San Benedetto del Tronto (Ascoli Piceno). In Tuscany , on the other hand, we find the Casabianca farm in Murlo (Siena) and the La Pieve oil mill in Arcille di Campagnatico (Grosseto). Finally, Orsogna oil and wine in the Municipality of Orsogna (Chieti), Venturino Giancarlo's company in the Municipality of Vaglio Serra (Asti) and Perlage Srl in the province of Treviso, in Farra di Soligo.
“ Since the beginning of the year - said Michele Crivellaro Marketing Director of CSQA - the requests for this certification have increased especially from companies that sell in the Ho.Re.Ca. channel. The main requirements for a product to obtain certification and use the Qualità Vegetariana® Vegan logo through third-party certification are the exclusion of ingredients and derivatives of animal origin and the absence of parts of animal origin even in the equipment and packaging materials”.
Also from an analytical point of view, the guarantee tools for this type of market have improved thanks to a research project started in 2009 by the MIPAAF and managed by the University of Milan and by Unione Italiana Vini, 2 methods of analysis have been developed, specific for wine and based on the ELISA system , which can allow the identification of residues of milk and egg derivatives with an improved detection limit compared to those previously available. The methods were evaluated and validated through a collaborative interlaboratory study which included 12 qualified Italian laboratories.
The CSQA-Valoritalia group will participate in the conference "The carbon footprint for the sustainability of wine" which will be held on Tuesday 24 March 2015 at Vinitaly at the Palaexpo (Mozart room) at 10.00.
