ISO 14067

WHAT IS THAT

ISO 14067 was published in 2018 and defines the principles, requirements and guidelines for the quantification and reporting of the CFP (Product Carbon Footprint) , based on the international reference standards for LCA studies (ISO 14040 and ISO 14044).

This standard offers all organizations a means of calculating the carbon footprint of their products (either goods or services) and provides an opportunity to better understand how to reduce it.

ISO 14067:2018 replaces the technical specification ISO/TS 14067:2013.
Carbon offsetting and CFP reporting are outside the scope of this document.

CSQA offers the CFP verification and validation service and the CFP Systematic Approach certification service.

KEY POINTS

While based on the LCA approach, ISO 14067 deals only with the " climate change " impact category.

The carbon footprint is understood as the sum of emissions and removals of greenhouse gases (GHG) along the life cycle of a product.

The calculation therefore takes into consideration the emissions linked to the extraction and transformation of raw materials, as well as those linked to the production, distribution, use and end of life of the product. The study of the CFP (CFP study) allows to quantify the carbon footprint of the considered product in terms of CO ₂ equivalent.

The verification activity is understood as a punctual activity aimed at assessing the reliability of data relating to the calculation of the CFP in a specific period of time.
