However, this evolution brings not only enormous opportunities, but also risks that require structured management.
In Europe, theEuropean AI Regulation (AI Act) , developed to make the use of this technology more accountable, imposes certain obligations on suppliers and manufacturers of AI technologies , managing the authorisation of artificial intelligence systems in the EU single market.
To address this challenge, the Quality Infrastructure has also started working on dedicated standards: published as an international standard in 2023 and adopted in Europe in 2024, UNI CEI ISO/IEC 42001:2024 “Information technologies – Artificial intelligence – Management system” is now also available in Italian translation.
Organizations that adopt UNI CEI ISO/IEC 42001 will be able to demonstrate compliance with many of the AI Act's requirements, such as risk management, transparency and process documentation.
The standard aims to support public and private organizations that develop, use or intend to responsibly adopt artificial intelligence systems and, based on the Harmonized Structure (HS), allows alignment with other management standards, offering a common framework in terms of terminology and structure.
