CSQA's digital campaign continues to explain the value and importance of voluntary certifications , an increasingly strategic tool to guarantee consumers specific quality characteristics defined in specific standards, based on technical specifications.
What is being told today is the MonteRé project, an Italian story made of innovation and sustainability.
The Cooperativa Modenese Essiccazione Frutta MonteRé has in fact obtained the first CSQA certification for net carbon absorption thanks to the adoption of advanced agricultural techniques in the cultivation of plums.
This certification is part of an evolving European context, which aims to enhance the role of agriculture and forestry in capturing and storing CO2 by economically incentivizing sustainable practices to address the challenges related to climate change.
The certification – aimed at valorising companies that apply sustainable agricultural practices – is based on a scheme that takes into account the currently applicable European legislation and which provides for the evaluation by a certification body to guarantee accuracy and competence.
In this context, CSQA , thanks to its long experience in the agronomic and forestry sector, has been chosen as a certifying body providing robustness and authority through independent verification activities.
The team of scientists and specialists, including Nobel Prize winner Riccardo Valentini , developed the certification specification and a monitoring tool called “Tree Talker” on behalf of MonteRé.
The device , designed to monitor the health of trees in real time, collects fundamental data on their CO2 absorption , growth and water status .
This information allows farmers to optimize cultivation practices , reducing environmental impact and maximizing carbon sequestration.
Thanks to the adoption of these innovations, MonteRé has implemented a cultivation system that not only enhances biodiversity, but actively contributes to climate adaptation.
“The data we obtain from the Tree Talkers allows us to make informed choices to improve the quality of our orchards, promoting the adoption of carbon farming practices and contributing to the reduction of climate change” explains Alberto Mario Levi, President of MonteRé .
The benefits for agricultural companies include the possibility of certifying the absorbed CO2 , which can be used to offset company emissions and, where possible, converted into voluntary carbon credits, recordable and sellable on a dedicated market , with a possible economic benefit.
Furthermore, certified companies are recognized as “guardians of biodiversity” , since the application of these good agronomic practices contributes to maintaining the quality of the ecosystem.
Finally, the certification offers the consumer the security of purchasing a product coming from a company committed to a concrete path of sustainability and conservation of biodiversity.
