Exalting a territory thanks to its own excellences to promote and make known protected designations of origin even outside national borders is the objective of the three-year project which was co-financed by the European Union; a winning format entitled " DOP Excellences: an entirely European savoir faire " which brings together four Italian agri-food excellences: Montasio DOP cheese, Garda DOP wines , Salami di Varzi DOP and Cuneo DOP raw ham .

These distinctive brands, supported by rigorous European Union regulations, not only protect the genuineness and authenticity of the products but also represent a beacon of quality and reliability for consumers. Hence the opportunity to learn about the thousand-year history of Montasio, which is unequivocally linked to the Abbey of Moggio Udinese, governed by the Benedictine monks, who perfected the cheese production techniques towards the middle of the 13th century.

Just to also give an order of magnitude in 2023 , the production of Montasio DOP cheese reached the impressive figure of 775,542 units , helping to generate a consumer value of 65 million euros . This result underlines the growing appreciation and demand for this product on both the national and international markets. The export of Montasio Dop has shown an upward trend in recent years, reaching almost 7% of total production , with a value exceeding 4 million euros, confirming its growing international appeal. (Source: CSQA). This is a supply chain supported by over a thousand stables certified by the CSQA body , which testify to the commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and sustainability. Production also takes advantage of 60 factories strategically distributed in the area of origin , which include 43 dairies, 16 maturers and an association of milk producers, all dedicated to creating an excellent cheese that respects the rigorous DOP criteria.
