The Apulian excellence entrusts the checks to CSQA, the leading sector certification body in Italy with 68 Geographical Indications
After the official registration at European level which took place on 10 December 2020, for the Mozzarella di Gioia del Colle PDO the approval of the control plan by the Central Inspectorate for the Protection of Quality and Fraud Repression of agri-food products of the Mipaaf arrives as the last step before the marketing of the certified product at an international level.
CSQA Certificazioni will carry out the control and certification task, under the supervision of the Mipaaf, which confirms the strong commitment to support the Italian PDO PGI supply chains in the area with the sixty-eighth controlled denomination.
A new certified excellence in support of the quality chains of Puglia which counts 63 agri-food and wine products DOP IGP STG in the regional territory, a heritage, according to the data of the Ismea-Qualivita 2020 Report, from 440 million euros to production involving around 4,300 operators . The Mozzarella di Gioia del Colle DOP, as well as being a symbolic product of the region, represents one of the great Apulian agri-food supply chains with a potential of 16,000 tons to be certified DOP , thanks to the work of over 70 dairies and 280 farmers for a potential value of turnover to the dairy close to 120 million euros (Source: ATS Treccia della Murgia).
Among the most relevant elements of the new control plan that will be applied to farms, milk collectors and dairies, there will be the control of the entire supply chain: from milk production, to its transformation up to the packaging of the finished product.
An important step for producers which will allow, on the one hand, to enhance the milk of a historical production, consolidating the presence of an important productive fabric on the territory, on the other to attack new markets, especially foreign ones, on which Puglia today exercises an important tourist attraction. The DOP will certainly be able to strengthen the commercial presence of the companies that will certify that, together with the Mozzarella di Gioia del Colle DOP product, they will be able to even more link the image to the territory of origin which in recent years has registered a strong international appeal.
